You’ve invested your time, your energy and your creativity in writing an email. Yet if the subject line is not compelling, and the email is not opened, you have no chance of receiving a return on your investment.
Hi, my name is Gary McKinsey, and in this short video I’m going to go over the short keys to creating a compelling subject line.
The first key is to personalize the email. Now you be thinking, “Gary, how do I personalize an email?” You begin to personalize an email with the persons name. The persons name is to be considered the most beautiful word in any language.
Now in my emails, I like to use the persons name followed by the word “Video” since those of you that know me know I use a lot of videos in my emails. By including the word video I believe it creates curiosity. Now after the word video, I use subject. The next key in my subject line is the subject of the video or the subject of the email.
Now here is example of a completed subject line. I have the persons name “Diane”. She knows the email is written just for her. The word “Video” so she knows a video is included and the topic “New Business”. I believe this is a compelling subject line that should cause her to have curiosity and to actually click on and open the video.
The question always comes up “Well, what is the appropriate length of a subject line?” The email marketers that have studied this a lot agree that 7 to 8 word is an appropriate length of a subject line. Also, keep in mind that at least half of the emails are read on a persons device (mobile phone). So you want to be sure that the subject line appears on the device. In this case, we count the number of characters as to oppose the number of words. The number of characters that works well is 40 to 44 characters that will appear on the screen of a device (mobile phone). And of course you want your subject line to be short and concise. In fact, you want your entire email to be short, concise, and compelling.
So I encourage you to personalize your email and experience a greater open rate and ideally more sales. Until next time, this is Gary McKinsey encouraging you to believe in yourself and to live your life according to your vision for your life.
